Takeda (Ireland) Ltd are a research-based global pharmaceutical company, with the Grangecastle Plant being Takeda’s centre for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing, development and technical support, and is located within the high technology Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Business Park at Grangecastle, Clondalkin, Dublin.
The project consisted of a two storey extension to an existing administration facility carried out on a phased basis and the refurbishment to existing pharmaceutical plant.
Phase 1 of the works included enabling works to allow the main structure to be accommodated, with preliminary shutdowns to diverted services – mains water, medical gases, natural gas and air conditioning, along with external works and car parking.
Phase 2 included the main build of the extension, which consisted of a highly serviced two storey steel framed structure on pad foundations, Kingspan metal clad walls interrupted with single windows and curtain walling, architectural cladded spine wall and a Kingspan roofing panel. Full high specification administration offices and welfare facilities were completed, including kitchen and dining facilities. Emergency response room, warehouse, stores and maintenance areas consisted of fitted wash down areas and epoxy floors, including fitted racking and shelving.
Phase 3 of the contract was carried out after the successful completion/handover of the main structure, allowing the existing facility to be refurbished, including complete strip out and re-instatement of mechanical and electrical services, including medical gases, water services, HVAC, fire alarm, intruder alarm and general services. Construction of new laboratories, and associated underground services including the installation of double contained polypropylene process drains and lab fit-out.
