Asbestos Policy
White (chrysotile), blue (crocidolite) and brown (amosite) asbestos are carcinogens and effort should be made to avoid exposing any of our employees or any other persons engaged on our sites or members of the public to asbestos in any form.
Before alteration or demolition works in an existing building
an asbestos survey should be requested from the project supervisor for the
design stage or from the client. If the request is unanswered then the Company
will engage a specialist contractor to perform the survey.
If the survey
identifies the presence of asbestos then the H.S.A. will be notified and a risk
assessment carried out and control measures instigated. Removal of asbestos will
only be executed by a licensed facility.
If asbestos is discovered
during the course of the works that was not identified by the original survey
then all activity in that area will stop immediately. The affected area will be
secured and only trained and suitably equipped personnel will be allowed to
enter and deal with the asbestos. The H.S.A. will again be notified of the
asbestos re-occurrence and licensed contractors will be engaged to dispose of
the asbestos.
Counselling will be offered to any person who inadvertently
comes into contact with asbestos and this will be facilitated through the
Company Doctor.
